Bio for Dr. Kevin E. James

Dr. Kevin E. James, Dean, Herzing University, Atlanta, Georgia

Dr. Kevin James was named Acting CEO of the 100 Black Men of America (The 100), internationally headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. The mission of 100 Black Men of America is to improve the quality of life and enhance educational and economic opportunities for all African Americans. The overall concept of The 100 began in 1963 in New York City when a group of concerned African American men began to meet to explore ways of improving conditions in their community. 100 Black Men has four principal program areas: Mentoring, Education, Health and Wellness, Economic Development and Leadership Development. As of 2018, 100 Black Men of America has more than 125,000 students enrolled in its mentoring and outreach programs. In his role as Acting CEO, Dr. James oversees the day to day operations, strategic planning, external relations, and fundraising initiatives for the non-profit organization of 10,000+ members who volunteer through a host of mentorship and community service initiatives across the country and internationally.

In his nearly 20-year career as a higher education administrator, executive business leader, and motivational speaker, Dr. James is committed to improving his community through education and empowerment. He has served in various senior-level administrative roles in both for-profit and non-profit colleges. He is currently president of Kevin James Unlimited Education Group, where he works with educational organizations as a consultant. His non-profit leadership experience includes serving on the 100 Black Men of Atlanta Board of Directors, Chair of Mentoring, and Vice Chair for New Member Training. He also served on the Board of Directors of Girls Inc., located in Columbus, Ga., and was a career-readiness speaker for college students with the United Negro College Fund. Additionally, he has numerous non-profit leadership experiences in international associations and fraternal organizations as an advisor and regional director.

A native of Columbia, S.C., Dr. James earned his bachelor’s degree in Communication Disorders and Social Sciences from Winthrop University, a master’s degree in Business Management, Leadership, and Organizational Effectiveness from Troy State University, and a Doctorate of Education degree in Higher Education Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. He is also a graduate of the Higher Education Institute at Harvard University.

Committed to community service with The 100 and beyond, Dr. James holds active memberships in several fraternal organizations including Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity, and the Prince Hall Masonic Fraternity. About 100 Black Men of America, Inc.

100 Black Men of America, Inc. is a global nonprofit mentoring organization committed to the intellectual development of youth and the economic empowerment of the African American community through promoting the precepts of respect for family, spirituality, justice, and integrity. It began with one chapter in New York City in 1963, incorporated in 1986 and today has more than 99 chapters reaching 125,000 youth in the United States, London, and Turks and Caicos Islands.

My first book contribution

Black American Males in Higher Education, Research, Programs, and Academe is a collection of 16 chapters where the contributing scholars examine the situation or state of Black American/ African American males in higher education, particularly as pertains to higher education environments and those programs and policies that affect them.
